Who do we support?

The Human Rights Defenders Fund assists Human Rights Defenders at risk, both individuals and organizations, who face threats and various legal proceedings against them due to their non-violent protest activities, which aims to defend human rights.

The Fund operates a hotline for emergency assistance, and provides legal counsel and representation for all types of legal proceedings: from on-call lawyers during protest activities, assistance during arrest and detentions by the police, military or security services, to representation in court trials, and more.

The Fund provides assistance to human rights defenders – as they are defined by the 1998 UN Declaration – persons who work in different fields in both Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories. The Fund sees the Israeli occupation in the Palestinian Territories as an acute and protracted violation of human rights, and, accordingly, prioritizes HRDs who act against it.

HRDF can be reached by phone or email. Any request for assistance undergo a speedy examination and authorization process by the Board of Directors and a legal advisor.
